K-12 education program graduates have a generalists training in education in the four key specialized areas. Early childhood development, elementary school, middle school and ending with high school are the four key areas where graduates are qualified to teach the said grade levels. These days many states and local districts require additional endorsements or certification for specific subject areas or specialized areas of teaching where English as a second language, gifted and talented, or special education are the primary examples.
